GMCS - Department of Psychiatry, Ms. Ami Pathak, Clinical Psychologist won the Best paper award in scientific session paper titled "Role of Clinical Psychologists in dealing with Juvenile Delinquency: Concept, Factors and Intervention Plan" in 46th National Annual Conference of Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists (46th NACIACP-2020) held on 21-23 February, 2020 at Chandigadh.

GMCS- Medical Education Unit under the Monitoring & mentor ship of MEU Coordinator Dr Arpita Nishal; successfully organised a 3 day Revised Basic workshop in Medical education Technologies from 4-6 March 2020 at Government medical college Surat, under guidance of MCI nodal centre, PS Medical College Karamsad. There were 30 participants comprising of Professors, Associate Professors , Assistant Professors and tutors .It was an effective workshop which adhered to all the requirements of MCI for a Revised Basic MET Workshop.

GMCS-NCHS:World Cancer Day- Awareness campaign organised in the presence of Padmashri Yezdi Karanjiya sir. Skit play was performed by Nursing students portraying the causes & consequences of cancer & preventive & precautionary measures for it.

On 3/2/2020 3 to 4.30 pm NCH, Surat organised an Update CME on nCoV outbreak for all residents, interns, nursing staff and faculties. The experts talked about the epidemiological aspects, symptoms, management and most importantly prevention. Demonstration on using personal protection equipments its discarding was very useful. EMO explained the current roles and responsibilities of the committee and all health personnel. He stressed on defining Exposed person, guidelines on Isolation and how and when to investigate. Preparedness and Prevention were stressed by the Medical Superintendent and Dean.

On 3rd February 2020, from 5 to 6 pm, Dean GMC SURAT and Medical Superintendent NCH SURAT interacted with all Resident doctors for their needs and constructive suggestions to improve quality of HealthCare services as well as making the work environment least stressful and enjoyable. All from clinical and paraclinical specialities expressed very specific suggestions and solutions at hospital, college and hostel levels. All residents will also fill up a google survey form so as to get inputs from all. The compiled report will be sent to higher authorities for necessary action along with local level actions.

Objectives of study were to determine demography, severity and factors associated with potential drug-drug interactions.It is matter of great pride for 2nd MBBS student to publish a research article in national journal so early in her rising carrier.

GMCS- Proud moments: As a Medical Institute GMCS is one of the first to introduce NCC for our students. In last 20-25 years, we are the only institution affiliated to University (VNSGU) to be granted permission to start NCC for Senior Division! The batch of 21 students have joined so far, and the capacity of each batallion is 50. Every Saturday 3 to 5 pm below the library is the meeting place. Students are enjoying, getting physically trained as well as mentally prepared.

World Patients Safety Day Celebration at New Civil Hospital Surat

We are happy to share that a poster on 'Climate change and sustainability interventions - urban perspectives' by our faculty Dr Shailee Vyas Asstt Professor, Deptt of PSM has won the best poster award at the International Conference on Sustainability Education, held at New Delhi on 9-10 September 2019.

On 13th September 2019 a GMC accredited training workshop "Different Strokes of Depression" was arranged on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day by Department of Psychiatry, GMCS attended by more than 200 participants; Mainly 1st year PG students along with medical and nursing staff and students. It was inaugurated by Dean Dr. J M Brahmbhatt and MS Dr. Ganesh Govekar. After a quiz on suicide statistics, Dr. Parag Shah from SMIMER talked about What is NOT Depression. Followed by 4 role plays depicting Melancholic, Postpartum, Geriatric and Agitated Depressions by psychiatry residents and consultants Dr. Pooja, Dr. Dimple, Dr. Kamlesh Dave and Dr. Ritambhara. Lastly after sharing by staff members, all took a pledge to Take a Minute and Save a Life...

On the 5th September 2019, Teachers' day, GMCS Intracollege UG Psychiatry Quiz was arranged. 7 teams participated, from 1st to final year MBBS students. GMCS- Dept of Ophthalmology: Our Ophthalmology residents won first prize at all Gujarat Ophthalmic Quiz arranged at Regional Ophthalmic Institute Ahmedabad (M J Institute of Ophthalmology). Total 32 teams with 96 PGs & 6 SRs participated. Dr.Ashvin Vasava is working as Associate Professor of Medicine at Govt.Medical College and New Civil Hospital Surat. He has been awarded the degree of Ph.D. on "Study of Sickle Cell Disease complications" at VNSGU in July 2019 under the guidance of Dr.K.N.Bhatt. He was felicitated for his achievement by Hon.CM & Dy.CM on 9th August at Dahod on the occasion of celebration of world indigenous day.

GMCS-On National Deworming Day, 08/08/2019; the Department of Community Medicine, GMC, Surat, has carried out public health intervention among first year MBBS students. First year students consumed Albendazole tablet as a health promotion activity and for creating awareness.

UG Orientation, 2019.The 100th batch of 250 UG students received a warm welcome from the GMCS on 1st August 2019. Under the leadership of Dean Dr. J M Brahmbhatt, MoC Dr. Alpna Mathur invited the guests and gave a sketch of the medical course. Dr.Madhusudan Umarji, IMA secretary, Dr. Dr. Vinod shah of Alumni association, Dr. Divyesh Shah Ophthalmologist and parent of past student were guests who were felicitated and they shared their experiences which made parents and students feel relaxed alleviating their anxieties. White Coat ceremony was performed by all dignitaries.

NMHP SURAT organised an IEC activity for the nursing students on Theme of Addiction - IDUS - HIV in observance of WORLD AIDS DAY at DOST center. For them it was a unique experience of listening to the IDUs about their life before and after, working for years on in Deaddiction with lapses and relapses, the concept of DOT program for opioid drug users, and difficulties in rehabilitation. The program was graced by GMCS Dean Dr. Brahmbhatt and other HoDs.

GMCS-Dept of Community Medicine:Dr Samudyatha UC received First prize of Rs Twenty thousand for her presentation " Pitfalls in the Road map to Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission (EMTCT) of HIV in India" under mentorship of Dept of Community Medicine. This is consecutive second time that a resident from Dept of Community Medicine , GMC Surat has won this prize at national level, as last year it was won by Dr Shivangi from our department.Also,Dr Manvendra Singh presented oral paper "New Solutions and old problems:Test and Treat in South Gujarat." And Dr Avani Gajjar presented poster "Retention in care for ART services among HIV positive Key Populations at Tertiary Care Hospital."All 3 PG students received full scholarship to present at 11th National Conference of AIDS Society of India at Bangalore.A real proud moment for GMC Surat.

GMCS-Bone marrow transplantation: Patient and Doctors’ awareness programme was conducted on 7th October at hemophilia care center by dept of Paeditrics. Before 1 year free HLA matching camp was conducted where 87 siblings’ HLA matching was done , out of these 27 were matched 12 by 12.Out of these 7 childrens bone marrow transplantation was done.All these thalassemics incuding mr shaival gandhi who himself was suffering from thalassemia and went for BMT before 25 years, was invited ....he shared his success story and motivated others for transplantation. Dean Dr Jayesh Brahmbhatt blessed the function by his valuable presence and gave his valuable views on thalassaemia.

our 3rd year resident of Psychiatry dept Dr. Pooja Shatadal has won 1st prize for Blitz Presentation Competition at International Dementia Conference 14-16 Sept 2018 at Bangalore. There were presentations by 11 presenters (following Prof Prabha Chandra's Blitz idea, including topic on the future by young - Dementia care in 2040). Hers was applauded by many. It was very competitive also. Second prize was won by NIMHANS resident. Congratulations

Department of Psychiatry, GMC, Surat has been running project DASH for Distress and Suicide prevention help in medical students. The Workshop was planned for 1st Year PG students on 10th of September 2018 on World Suicide Prevention Day. It was interactive and activity based program, with many skits played by students themselves.

CME organised on basics of fracture fixation course part -1,by Orthopaedic Dept, GMC surat, attended by faculty & residents of GMC , Surat & SMIMER.Our guest lecturers were orthopaedic stalwarts,Dr Rajiv Raj choudhary, Dr Nikhil Vachrajani.

Dept of Respiratory Medicine GMC Surat organised a certified spirometry workshop on 8th September 2018 with the support of Chest Research Foundation, Pune.60 delegates trained for the same.Demonstrations for performing PFT were done.Thanks to all the delegates for attending it.

Workshop on "Guide to Writing An Effective Dissertation Protocol" was organised by Scientific Review Committee, Government Medical College, Surat in three batches of newly enrolled Resident Doctors of 2018 during 10 to 17 July 2018. Total 152 resident doctors attended.

Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign AND AEFI (Adverse Events Following Immunization) Centre Establishment

  • Government of Gujarat has launched MR Vaccination Campaign on 15th July 2018. As a part of this campaign Government medical college Surat has taken Active initiatives. MR Campaign sensitization workshop was arranged for all faculty members, under graduate and Post graduate students. AEFI management workshop was arranged for Pediatric, Medicine and PSM Department on 11/07/2018. Department of pediatric will conduct MR Vaccination sessions from 16th July onwards at OPD – 23 from 9 Am to 1 Pm & 4 Pm to 5:30 Pm daily (Except on Holiday) with well equipped AEFI kit. Senior experienced Vaccinator will give vaccine with AD Syringe which locks automatically after single use. New civil Hospital, Surat is identified as Regional Tertiary care centre for AEFI. To provide early and prompt treatment for AEFI, Department of pediatric has establish AEFI centre at G4 ward adj
